The BMW Malaysian Open is a fully sanctioned tournament by the WTA and is one of the top five premiere women’s sporting events in the country. 2016 marks Malaysia’s 7th year of hosting this prestigious event.
Televised to a global audience of over 300 million households across the world in over 47 countries, with over 170 hours of live broadcast, it is without a doubt, one of the most anticipated events on the country’s sporting calendar.
Won by Alisa Kleybanova at its inaugural staging in 2010, Kuala Lumpur has since been captured by Jelena Dokic, Hsieh Su-Wei, the second Taiwanese to secure a WTA title, Karolina Pliskova, Donna Vekic and Caroline Wozniacki in 2015.
The BMW Malaysian Open 2016 is set to serve up the action to Malaysian audiences from 29th February until 6th March 2016 at the KL Golf and Country Club (KLGCC).
The tournament will see 32 single players and 16 doubles teams’ competing in a knockout competition over the course of the seven day tournament for the prize purse of USD 250,000.00.
BMW returns on board as the title sponsor of this event for the sixth year. The tournament is organized by the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM) and promoted by Carbon Sports Sdn Bhd in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysia.
